Farmer-Rancher Network bringing producers and consumers together in day-long gathering

CORSICANA—The Farmer-Rancher Network (FRN) is hosting a day-long gathering to promote discussion between farmers and consumers about ways to support local agriculture.

The gathering will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, at The Gander Mountain Lodge Meeting Room, 3301 Corsicana Crossing Blvd.

The agenda includes morning round table discussions for producers and consumers on beef, poultry and produce production and a lunchtime presentation by Bobby Thurman from Lawns Alive! on “The Intricacies of Serious Produce Production.”

There will be an afternoon panel discussion focused on what consumers look for in local foods, as well as a presentation on best display practices at farmers markets, by Tony Johns, the former farm resource coordinator for the Dallas Farmers Market.

Admission is free and lunch will be available for $6. Please RSVP to Tony Johns at 214-289-7078 or tony.johns2007@yahoo.com to order lunch.

The Farmer-Rancher Network is currently an informal group of farmers, ranchers and friends who gather to share ideas, to network and to support each other in their agricultural endeavors. He said every cow that ever met her doom on a rural track was invariably the best, most productive cow in the plaintiff's herd. It makes you wonder how much better our industry would be today if it hadn't been for this accidental culling over the last century and a half. I guess we're still making up for this lost genetic ground in our breeding and selection programs.
